The pots themselves are part of the art as well, chosen to compliment the shape and color of the tree itself. Mosses and rocks are often added to the base for aesthetic appeal. This is as opposed to the informal upright that has curves and bends with the apex usually found on top of the roots. The apex extends to the right or the left of the base. And its commercial value has outstripped its philosophy. This is why a bonsai plant can be transplanted with relative ease, and in most cases exceeds the life span of the regular plant or tree that it is derived from.
